2009 E320 - 04 E320
Help!!
For two weeks car could start only in the neutral position in the mornings. Then two days ago, won't start at all. Battery changed, new neutral safety switch, starter confirmed ok, yet car will not crank. Any suggestion will be appreciated

Try pulling the key towards you while turning the key. I've heard that some of our cars have ignition key problem....I had the same issue last week....
Changed battery and car still wont crank.

I could only start my 96 in Neutral several years back and when the dealership fixed it they said that if I waited, it would eventually not start in neutral either. Your shift position module/safety switch could have gone again or the ignition switch has broken internally. When you turn your key, does it work in all position and can you turn the accessories or and off and unlocks the steering wheel. The ignition switch is hard to change because you almost have to remove the whole dash. I have a video of it being done.

Thank you E-Klass. I've changed my neutral safety swich but it still shows no sign of starting.I am trying to see if I can fix this myself but it looks like I am taking a lot of guesses. Is it possible to get the video on changing the switch? Any more suggestions will be appreciated.

1. You didn't specify if all lights on the dash came on and if the horn, radio, and other stuffs are working.
2. Also, do U hear any noise from the ignition OR the engine compartment?
3. Do U have a duplicate key? Try another key.
4. Make sure the remote control is working well too....You can lock and and
unlock your car with the key and not the remote...then try to start the car
5. Maybe its the alarm system...preventing the ignition to kick in.
....just some troubleshooting suggestions....good luck.

Thanks again. All the lights are on, including the the instrument cluster. The horn works, the key turns. I also tried a second key and turned the alarm off and on. I even tried moving the gear lever to different positions. I just hear a click noise from the engine when I try to start, and that's it

Resolved. It happened to be the neutral safety switch. The car could still not start because the gear selector was not properly installed after replacing the neutral safety safety which was the culprit. Thank you guys
