MOD question

Hello All,

I am a newbie to the group and have a question about mods.

I have 2001 E430 sedan no mods whatsoever. My co-worker just bought a 1997 E420 and he challenged me to a race here at a local dragstrip.

I understand that the 2 cars are evenly matched. Is there any easy MOD that I can do to make my car have an advantage?

Any suggestions would help.

Thanks.

He just bought his car; is it stock? Your stock E430 should beat a stock E420 on paper.

The performance of the two is close enough that the race may be determined by available traction and driver skill.

E430
0-60: 6.1 sec
1/4 mi: 14.5 sec

E420
0-60: 6.7 sec
1/4 mi: 14.9 sec

I would suggest to put on headers and replace exhaust system. This would give you about 30hp without a lot of work. There is limited after-market performance parts for MB due to limited demand and the ones that are available are not cheap compared to other make of cars.

I figured I'd do the exhaust at such time my Cats burn out, and since I'm over 80k miles, should be coming soon now.

Any recommendations on sources? Price?
