Codes - Interpretation 0300, 0305 and 00301

2000 e320. The check engine light came on and it immediately loss significant power. Idle very rough. Shut it down for a while and it runs fine. Then it does it again. I bought a code reader off ebay and got 0300, 0301 and 0305 which says that the number 5 and 2 are miss firing. 80K miles.

I've posted this on the tech site and since there's a coil for each cylinder, it doesn't seem to make sense in that there would have to be simultaneous failure of two coils at the same time (or plug wires).

My gut says its emission, oxygen sensor or something, but that would show on the codes wouldn't it?

Any help would be appreciated.

With 0300 it might be a sensor issue. I don't think that you would have a number of coils fail at once. MAF and O2 sensors could be to blame.

You should look at changing your spark plugs if they are still the original ones. They say that they are good for 100K but 60K to 80K is more like it.

I changed my plugs at ~93k miles when I had similar misfire codes (I also had the infamous fuel trim bank A&B codes). it's significantly cheaper to change your plugs especially since it's just about time. Additionally, if it turns out you still have the codes after changing the plugs, you'll have brand new plugs to go with the MAF you might end up having to get. : )

I guess that makes sense about changing the plugs. It's just that the loss of power is dramatic and you'd think it wouldn't clear up. I just took the car to the store and even though the check engine light was off, the codes kept coming even after being cleared (the power was fine). Then coming back from the store, I checked the codes again and after clearing they didn't return.

I got on the throttle and not a single misfire, no misfire at idle either. You'd think a bad set of spark plugs would miss under load.
