e420 oil leak?

Question e420 oil leak?
A friend of mines has a e420 also i changed his old for him this pass weekend. I noticed that on the driver side of his car at the back of his engine he had a old leak, look like the valve cover or head gasket did the e420 have same headgasket problem as the e320, or is it just the valve cover please let me know.

has anyone had this problem and is it DIY.
