Shock Replacement Recommendations?

1996 E320 W210. Love the car but had a C280 sport before so the E320 feels like a luxury boat. Thinking of putting Bilsteins or sway bars so it doesn't plow into the corners.

Any recommendations out there?

Bilstein Sport, Touring, or Heavy Duty depending on what it is exactly you desire for the new ride quality.

Touring if you want firm - but not too firm - with a definately comfortable road ride.

Sport if you are considering lowering, or are currently using lowering springs.

Heavy Duty if you want firmness and control with a high level of comfort too.

That would be my recommendation.

I just finished installing some KYB's on the front of my 2000 E430 tonight. I have not gotten a good ride yet to test them, but initially they feel pretty stock (although alot tighter that my 85K mile OEM's that I pulled out). I will give them a few days and post my thoughts. I have to get around to installing the rears; maybe this weekend. These are the ones that are sold on ebay for $186 shipped for the set of 4.

As far as I know the W210 Sport has the same suspension as the regular W210. Atleast mine did.

you might want to look at Koni shocks because they are adjustable. You have 3 settings and you can create more or less understeer. I have H&R but I think I might go with Ebiach next time for a softer ride with my 19's

I would also recommend Bilsteins. Although I have ZERO experience with Mercedes, In the Porsche circles, we all have Bilstein's. As far as I understand Mercedes, like Porsche of that era, used Boge shocks. On the 993's these were good for sometimes less than 20K. I must assume little difference with them on a Merc as well.
In the spring department I like both H&R and Eibach. On my race car I use the Eibach springs and on my cabrio the H&R. You cant go wrong with either, only be aware of what spring rates you want because that will affect the ride.

Shocking Followup

I went with the Bilsteins HD Touring and what a difference it made. The car went from boat to Porsche ok, not that good but it does not plow into the corners anymore. Total costs with my local mechanic was under $800, well worth it IMO. Just wanted to give a followup.

i recently put on bilstein HD and Eibach springs. I was really surprised how comfortable the ride was - in fact, I think I prefer it over stock. The best part is how the front doesn't dive when you brake hard

I will have a complete set of H&R springs (V6 and V8 springs) plus Bilstein Sports available shortly. Coming out of a W210.
