Will I need to recalibrate my speedometer if I switch to 17 inch wheels from 16?
If I upgrade my wheels to a 17 inch set from the OEM 16 will I need to recalibrate the speedometer/odometer?
How does it work? I'm assuming because it's a different circumference tire, somethings going to change... Seems like it would read a slower speed with new 17 inch wheels.

the wheel, in and of itself, does nothing to the overall circumference of the
tire. it's the TIRE which you must select, size and diameter, which determines
the tracking distance per mile and how the spedo calibrates. use this java

yes - recalibrate speedo /odo if you bought sucka big *** tires compared to
stock size/circumference.
no- if you buy smart and stick with close to factory issued rubber. if it's within
a few points larger, i wouldn't sweat it. hah hah...when it comes time to sell,
you'll have 'low' miles.

So I think I understand this issue but it leads me to an even bigger question...
What's the advantage of going to a larger wheel setup. I always thought that a larger setup would yield a smoother ride and better handling? If the circumference is the same wouldn't the ride be the same? Or is the difference in the different sidewall specs on the tires?
I'm running 215 55 16 now, so what would I notice if I went to a 45?
