4matic opinion
quick ques. my 2000 e320 4matic goes thump towards the rear when pushing the gas pedal when moving at 5 to 20 mph. the harder you hit the pedal the harder the thump. dealer told me it was mormal with all 4matics. all opinions and experiences welcome.

E320-4Matic
This is not normal...I also own a 2000 E320-4matic,the tranny shifts smoothly.Perhaps you need a tranny service(new filter & mb fluid)..Good luck, take it to another shop.

It's possible you simply have a worn flex disc.
However, this problem also is, at least in part, due to a design defect in the rear differential that makes it somewhat "loose" from the factory. The sound you hear is the engine taking up the slack in the drivetrain after coasting. The rear differential (and the noise) are common to both 4Matic and RWD cars. although having all 4 wheels hooked together may exacerbate the problem in the 4Matic.
Search the archives. Here are some pertinent threads from another forum that may also be of help:
I'd have the flex discs checked out. If they're okay, and the noise is coming from the differential, I wouldn't worry about it unless you have a warranty that will pay to replace it. It's unlikely to fail or get worse.

I'm going to guess that it is something more than a transmission fluid change but maybe it's really dirty or low and is causing a hard shift... I would have a professional M-B tech take it for a drive...
'Thump' noises are typically associated with worn parts or something that has loosened up...

They need to make a forum award, and this gentleman would likely be my first nomination.
