steering noise

I know there are a thousand threads about steering noise. Like the question about something sounding like it is rubbing noise to a thudding noise when turning. I had both.

Took my car to my friendly reliable mechanic who could not find any noise or cause for it. Naturally the morning I took it in I did not hear it either, but I figured that was a fluke and the mechanic would know just where to look.

Brought the car home, and no noise. Has anyone else had this same experiance and does it mean that I do not have a steering problem?

The mechanic is a MB knowlegeable person, and could have charged me a lot to fix something, since he did not, I will continue to trust him...

Had a squeaking noise in the steering when turning at low speeds. Like parking maneuvers.

Ive had this happen a few times, I think that was just the surface of the road. The slick concrete like in garages is when I noticed it. So hopefully thats all it is. Cause if there is a real problem It should be noticeable whenever your going slow enough, like when parking.

I've got something going on where the steering column goes through the dash. It's annoying at times but no big enought to really take a look.

I also had a slight noise that seemed to be coming from in between the steering wheel and the top of the steering column. It sounded almost like the leather or rubber was rubbing against each other so I squirted a bit of WD40 in there, no more noise...
