1997 e 300 with over 245k and a 1998 with 148k on it...MB tech here.....so my cost is only my labortime and my cheap parts discount only major issues 97 needed an injection pump, 98 needed radiator, glow plugs, charge hose, evaporator, and compressor and drier...210's arent all that bad....til something major breaks

Heres some of the maintrnance & repair items on my 230,000 E55 per request from Patrick y:

Transmission and engine are origanal with no repairs and are performing like new!


Replaced front rotors & Pads 80,000mi
Installed Bosch Plat. +4's 123,000mi
Engine mounts 126,00 mi
Oxygen sensors (4) 127,000mi
Replaced transmission mount 143,000mi
Replaced fnt torsion bar bushings & tie rods 144,000mi
repl. front lower ball joints 145,000 mi
Replaced front rotors & Pads 164,000mi
repl front shocks 172,000mi
repl front springs (broken) 172,000mi
repl rear shocks 174,000mi
repl L & R catalytic converters (front converters cracked) 190,000mi
repl front both front fenders due to rust 190,000mi
Repl front tie rods 186,000 mi
repl crank pos. sensor 201,000mi
repl engine mounts 212,000mi
repl rt sway bar link 218,000mi

During this period I averaged about 19mpg city, and 24-25mpg highway.
Oil usage now is about 12,000mi per qt, normal driving, and about 8,000

The article said the transmission was replaced for more than $6K. Yet above you say it is original after the article was written. Could you clarify?

236,400 today...

original engine and trans....car still runs great!!!

my major issue is Neutral Safety Switch...which I've replaced about 5 times.
Its due for replacement again...car will only start in neutral...sometimes in P.

I've replaced
A/C auxilary fan
water pump

and of course the regulars like both rear and passenger side window regulators.
rotors
heater blower motor.

Bought the car last february at auction with 156,000 paid $1800 U.S put 3k in the transmission rebuild and shifter mech. it's mileage is sitting right around 181k had to replace the battery in it now i think the maf sensor is going out it has a rough idle in park and neutral only.
