thanks for the update with the picture No_Clue! Looks like a very very very easy mod. I already bought my bulbs and hopefully they'll arrive today or tomorrow.

Welcome.

Single 100ohm resistor only draw 1.44Watt, wherea OEM C5W bulb draw 5 Watt of power. (good enough to fool W210 class)

If by any chance, your W124 still show "Defective Lamp", you can add a resistor to other side. (even w/ both resistors, your car still use less than 1 stock C5W bulb)

You can made them yourself "technically"
But single LED will cost you around $1.5 and X6 plus resistor for the LED plus the housing..plus..plus plus..

I think it will be easier just order it which come WEATHER Sealed inside the glass tube, don't you think?
Besides, this guy called "US HOME direct" has same day shipping. (3 days delivered to D.C., if you are in Cali, maybe 1 or two days)

That last pic sure helps alot no-clue, thanks. I was going to solder two wires to the resistor so I can tie the thing onto the prongs and stick it elsewhere so the heat generated from the resistor doesn't melt anything....guess I wont need to with that.

I am still baffled as to why the LEDs I got were so dim compared to yours but I'll ask around for brighter ones and see what I turn up with.

Saw a GS tonite (for the first time at nite)...thought the ones on those are a little too bright and disbursed - a bit like its got huge flourecent lamps shining on it...this setup on the E looks much more "natural"

you have to install the LED at night to see where the beam "shooting" at on your plate.
too far down will looks dim!!!!

BTW, I have 8-LED festoon from other ebay seller.
But, it is NOT as bright as the 6-LED one, I got from "us home direct"

Yes, I know about the direction thing (I have been using festoon LEDs on the courtesy lights under the doors for the past 2 years) and I have tried every possible angle but still couldn't get an acceptable brightness with the ones I tried. Anyway, just got some new LED festoons and will see what happens. If all else fails I might then order from US Home Direct..(which could be a problem for me....).

Sounds like the 8-LED festoons you have might be similar to the ones I have (which are now used as spares for the courtesy lights under the doors). Looking at the pictures you've posted, the LEDs themselves inside the 6LED bulbs do look larger than the 8-LED ones I have.

Thanks again for the tips No_Clue...certainly makes things easy for all of us and avoids second guessing.

is this part legally in, or smuggled into the US? i want to do this right so that I dont get busted for using illegal, undocumented alien parts from Nogales.

(j/k...nice..going to try this mod!)

p.s. appears to be same/similar light in pax overheads (front and back) as
well as the door puddle lights. do you know if having LEDs will wreak havoc
on the overhead dimmer circuit?

Not sure if its the same length but yes, you can use these on the overhead lights without causing any issues (and a resistor is not needed) but as mentioned above, using these LED festoons in the interior IMO is too glarey and very "cold", much like having flouro lights, especially with a light interior.

Another good application for these are the puddle/courtesy lights under the doors:

its quite easy to pry the door lights out if you have nails or use a small screw driver (pry it from one end). I believe the bulbs are a bit shorter but with festoons, you can always flex the prongs a bit, so you can use a range of bulb lengths.

You want to see more pics of what no_clue?

nah..I just want to see more picture of those who did the license plate mod.

feel kind of "lonely" that I don't see any other car has white light license plate bulb. (Frankly, in this City, there are more Town car w/ GOVERMENT plate than Lexus)

42mm or 36mm will work.

Bulb housing is about 50mm wide
OEM regular bulb is 38mm
bulb socket is "flexible"

The picture below is when I am trying the 8-LED 44mm which proven to be dimmer than the 6-LED one.
