water spilled on shifter

My child spilt a bottle of water all over the center shifter. Know my car will not go in to gear and engine light comes on. Car will not display gear on dash. What to do on this matter. Just let the water dry or blow dry with hair dryer? Owe yeah it is a E430 2001. I hate water.

I hope for your sake it dries out without any permanent damage! Otherwise, open your wallet and make the necessary withdrawals from your kid's college fund.

Can anything be done to waterproof the area? Has anyone thought of doing that?

What about taking that area apart and putting some kind of rubber membrane over it so that any liquid would just run over it and not into things?

Does anyone have a picture of the effected parts in place?
