.... nothing to brag about, it is a previous model....
A depressing day!

A friend ditched MB and go for Lexus ES350.
( he said he is so happy to spend less than 38K for fully loaded model )

Here comes the depressing part.....

1. fit and finished.... how did they manage to have such smaller gap between panel as well as the interior???

2. It really does has extremely quiet cabin. (I thought it is b.s. until I sit in today)

3. It is faster than my E420, what the @#$!~

I hate been bully by japs..but,only thing I can said is.......
"it is damn ugly, and it is Toyota" ...sound so pathetic, eh?

Can you imagine how I feel? I have to "behave" when come to the red light w/ a ES.........

I read the es350's 0-60 time was 6.8, which is right around where our e420's should be, if not slower.

Hey lets face facts, ALL new cars are getting much faster. I could show you at least 40 cars made in 2006 that are faster than an old e-class, including just about every car Chrysler/dodge makes. So what? Want to drive any of them?

Neither do I, and I'll take that es350 last. I tested one the other day and I still can't drive a Lexus for more than 1 minute before being bored to tears.

Technology improving with time

Like it was stated previously, a lot of cars have advanced in performance as time has gone by.

Toyota / Lexus has really made a lot of how quiet (or isolated as some have complained) their cars ride.

A far cry from the tinny, light quality Japanese cars had from the 60's until the late 80's.

The thing though, is MB's have that solid feel at high speeds that other brands may be closing in on, but don't quite have it yet. The Japanese makers are very good at picking up on the qualities of other makers and incorporating into their product designs.

A lot of cars today are faster, handle better, and stop than the high performance cars of year's past. Today's luxury cars can often outperform the muscle cars of the years past and that's with a lot more weight and larger bodies than the older ones were.

In the past, MB's weren't the fastest thing off the line, but could cruise at high speeds all day (and not feel scary doing it), but in more recent years the 0-60 acceleration times are quite respectable.

Lightbulb 0-60 for W210

That depends on which model. There are E320 RWD and 4-Matic, E420 RWD, E430 RWD and 4-Matic, and E55 AMG (there might be others).

If you trust the Daimler numbers, go to MBUSA.com and within each car's section, click on Performance. That gives you 0-60, HP, Torque, and engine displacement.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The Japanese designers and engineers have been preying on western technology for a long time, and in a lot of product categories.

In my opinion, they can sell for less, because they don't need to spend a lot of money on R&D, the cost of which is ultimately borne by the consumer.

Smart idea? - yes. Good idea? - another yes. Ethical? - that probably deserves another thread of it's own.

If it makes you feel better, here it is: my friend's IS350 beat another friend of mine E500 (2004 W211) every time. Even when switch driver/car (W211 owner drive the IS350), the Lexus still outgun the Benz.

The W211 still look & feel much better. The IS quality is very high though.

Did you consider weight of the car? I still cant see an IS350 beating an E500 though.

All I can say is that your 10 year old Benz is as fast as Lexus's modern pride and joy. I wouldn't sweat it too hard, I looked at a Lexus GS430 recently, and still ended up keeping my 03 E500. Just remember...Nothing on the road has the prestige and feel of a Benz.

Yes, yes, yes...Although, your E420 is a larger and heavier car. The Benz is RWD.

So that means that on a twisty road, you will be with a wider smile driving your Mercedes, than your friend in his FWD Lexus with 270 rampaging stallions going through the front-wheels.

Besides, I don't believe that a FWD Camry with 270 Bhp can really go from 0 to 60 Mph in 6.8s. What about the torque steer?
