97' E300D sporatic spedometer

While driving my E300D I will loose speed indication. All other gauges (Gas gauges and tach) still work. SRS, antilock brakes, brake lining wear indicator and one other device then flash along with check engine. Then, in less than a minute, it will kick on again and all warning lights will stop. Check engine light will stay on for a day or two. I disconnected and connected the transmission wiring harness and that didn't work. Also can occur while sitting still at a stop/ie bumps don't seem to trigger. Seems to be more active with heat. Anyone have and ideas?

Thanks

brought it to a mercedes mechanic....he replaced the SRS module or something like that...said it wasn't communicating with the computer...still didn't work. He gave me the car back free of charge. Any other ideas?

Sounds like a VSS problem, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. Try another shop.

Just estimate your speed from figuring out what gear you're in and what your RPMs are like.

Speedometers often go out, you'll be going 40 mph, then 0 mph (even though you're still accelerating), and the speedometer will come back whenever it feels like it. Your best bet is to drive at about the same speed other people are driving and to count your gears (assuming you drive an automatic). Keep in mind, the torque converter doesn't lock on your car so you might overestimate your speed a bit.

More on the problem. Doesn't do it as much when its cold. Also the error code on the the code off the OBD-II is P0600 which is the Commlink Malfunction. Really having fun with this car.
