Okay,
So I've gone through most of the forum as well as the audio & electronics section, but I figure since we own the cars (w210), that it would be the best place to start.
Now I'm looking to upgrade the system in the vehicle, and honestly do NOT want to put a box in my trunk for the subs. From what I have been told, this particular vehicle needs what's known as a "free air" type sub in order for me to still use the factory location.
Does anyone know of any manufacturers that sell these? If not, what does everyone else have in the factory location where the subs are suppose to go? I do not have the bose system, so take that into consideration. The speaker size is supposidly 6.5" which really limits things, and I have 8" subs that I thought could fit, but was told they couldn't and because they are not free air subs they won't sound as good.
What else is everyone running in their vehicle? From headunit, components, ICE, etc.?
PICS OF SYSTEM ARE ENCOURAGED!!!

With a bit of effort i have a set of 3 way MB quarts in the rear, the bass driver fits in the original hole without modifying the rear deck and the mid fits in the door Ok and a set of 2 way quarts in the front with a decent amp to push it sounds reasonable, with the boot as the box the bass is not very tight but ample for me and i only lost 40 mm of space where the speaker magnet protrudes through the hole.

Horse.

.... nothing to brag about, it is a previous model....
Stock Bose system w/ $129 Blaupunkt mp3 player.
Trunk:
(just sold the stock CD changer, since doesn't work w/ Blaupunkt)
A set of golf club, a box of unsorted files, extra pair of shoes, a pair of running sneakers, a sleeping bag, and a 2-people camping tent.
Oh yeah.........they do make annoying noise when I go over a bump.

I dunno... guess I was just looking to purchase some aftermarket subs to go in the trunk that wouldn't take up much trunk space since this car is an everyday commuter car...
I was also told that it may be possible to fit the rear fill speakers from the older S-class models (W140) that had an AMAZING bose stereo into the factory locations of the W210. I have both, and it seems that it could be done, but wanted to know if anyone has heard of this being possible?
In terms of the install....I was looking for something almost invisible. Maybe this will help... I was looking to do an install similar to this. I would just need to find free air subs that would be compatible.
The install was done to a new S-class (w220).

2002 Mercedes S 500 Great performance comes from JL Audio free-air woofers in European sedans. We were able to fit three 10” subs in this custom rear deck

2002 Mercedes S 500 10/24 bolts and T-nuts were used to hold the woofers in place while the whole deck was bolted in the car with 3/8 “bolts. OEM matching gray carpet was used to cover it.
