Rear left window fell of track?? What part do I need? POS plastic part!

Hello, I have a 2001 E430 and I was rolling the rear left window down the other day and the whole window just completely fell inside the door panel. I took apart the door panel to find the piece that hold the window to the rail had broken off. What is that plastic part called or does anyone know the part number? Do I have to remove the window to install a new piece? How do I go about fixing this problem?
Thanks,
Rich

4 wheeled car.
probably gotta replace the whole window regulator. less than $100 at your dealership. Need a rivet gun to install new rivets (which you can get at the dealer -the rivets that is), and a drill to drill out the old rivets. There are many threads on this subject, do a search.

Even if I purchased a whole new window regulator, I don't think it comes with the plastic piece that attaches to the glass, or does it? I think the piece is called a guide jaw.
Here is a picture of it:

I found 2 sites that sells a piece simillar to the piece I need but I am not sure if it is it.

So your regulator works OK? You should be able to tell by operating it with the panel off and visually checking.

If it is, I think you've already nailed your problem part - you can always double check with a Stealership parts guy.

You may want to consider replacing the regulator while you've got the panel off as it's going to fail at some point.

And guess what, I have an '01 E430 and the left rear window regulator blew apart a week ago - definitely smacks of planned obsolescence.

Good luck!

I changed the regulator over the holiday weekend.

The part you've highlighted is part of the regulator - runs up and down the regulator track and as you said above, attaches to the base of the glass.

I'd very much suggest replacing the whole thing. Most regulators seem to fail at the spindle holding the wire controlling the up and down motion of the regulator.

If only the part you've identified has failed and you replace that, the chances are very high that the spindle will fail at some point further down the road.

Seems you'd be doing the job twice instead of replacing it all now.

Hope this helps!

My 99 E430 rear driver window regulator broked the other day. The cost of the regulator at the dealership was $130 and labor was 2.5 hours @ $155 per hour. Can you believe this??? I decided to do it myself. Did some search on the forum and found some articles on replacing the regulator.

I have drilled out the 4 rivets. My question is how do you rivet the one at the 12 o'clock position?? It seem that you have to remove the "sheet metal" to get the rivet gun to work for that one rivet. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Hey Jaman:

Think I posted the wrong reply to your other posting.

The 12 o'clock rivet didn't present a problem - are you sure you have it lined up correctly?

Nellie,

Finally figure out how to use the rivet gun. The steel rivets from MB was very hard to install. I just used one steel rivet and the other three I used aluminum rivets. Nothing beats doing it yourself and saving mucha dollars. Thanks again Nellie and zam2000.
