I roll out of my driveway in reverse into the street and then put the car in drive and leave. Sometimes when I put the car in drive I am still coasting backward and when the drive gear engages, it does so with a clunk. I have done this with my other cars, Volvo and Saab and never had the feeling like my gears were about the rip out. Is this a MB 4matic trait or is it a sign of a problem with my transmission? Is it harmful? Needless to say other than the first time, I try not to do it, but when you back into the street, sometimes it is necesary to get moving in a hurry because of on coming traffic.
