I posted this in the AMG forum but most of the users have W211 it seems. At around 2000-3000rpm in a higher gear (before it gears down) a noise can be heard that sounds like detonation. There are no codes in the computer. I changed the spark plugs to see if that would remedy the problem. I have tried every kind of premium I can find.

Any shuddering sounds? Any vibrations?

Just a detonation sound?

Give us some stats about the car (mileage, driving habits, etc.).

It sounds like detonation. I have owned serveral turbocharged cars so I am quite sensitive to the noise. It is hard to know for sure as the car is so quiet inside. The car has 92,000kms on it. I just purchased it and noticed it shortly after I picked it up. I have taken it out for some good runs to see if it might be driven too mildly before. The MAS was replaced at about 50,000km.

Thanks for all your responses. I had my car in for a service and they discovered a collapsed motor mount. The noise in gone now.
