Mileage Correction/Odometer Malfuntion
I have a 1997 E420 which sat in my garage for over a month while I was overseas and when i came back the battery was dead. When I jumped started the car the Odometer reading became Iratic and kept on changing, at one point in time it showed over 170k on it and in reality it should read somewhere 65k.
At present the mileage is stuck at 136k. Does anyone know anyone besides the benz dealerwho can correct the odometer in San Antonio, Austin or Houston Area?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

a 97 with 65k on it ? you know you have high mileage why didnt you ask "does anyone know how to backup a digital odometer?? you may have recently tried to trade in and became aware of what the resale with your high mileage is vs what it would be with low mileage

it's not uncommon for people to have older vehicles with low mileage. I know of a '99 C230 with only 40k miles on it.
If the odometer is in-fact wrong, I believe there is more than one place that the mileage is stored on computers. You can try and ask the dealer to check and see if they can verify if what the odometer is showing is actually correct.

Too funny; I have never heard of the odometer changing mileage like that, but I suppose that anything is possible. If someone really wants to change the mileage to illegally improve the resale value, you simply change out the speedometer from a low mileage one found at a wrecking yard. With CarFax now days, it is harder to cheat on mileage if anyone servicing the vehicle has reported to CarFax.
As far as mileage goes, my 2001 E320 has 3,336 miles on it. I bought it new, so I know no tricks were involved. But that kind of mileage is not typical. Anyone who is knowledgeable should be able to tell if a vehicle has 65k miles or 165k miles on it.

Mileage data is actually stored within the speedometer assembly itself? I would've thought that it was stored in the ECC or some other onboard processor that could be tied to the vehicles specific VIN.
