Wheel Fitting

these wheels are up for sale at a decent price ($800 with 50% tread). i'm thinking of pulling the trigger on them, but i want to make sure they fit. by looking at the SL, can anybody tell if these would fit a 1997 E420? seems like maybe i've seen others on this board with similar wheels, but i don't know if MB switched up the bolt pattern along the way - the SL is obviously years newer than my car.

Thanks!

Got to www.tirerack.com,and compare the sizes for the car you have pictured,AND the car you spoke about. See if any of the rims have a size that
can work. Good Luck

the rims nor the tires fit. The tires are too tall. The bolt pattern is the same at 5x112, but the SL uses 14x1.5mm bolts and your W210 has 12x1.5mm. Plus the offset will not work properly. Those rims & tires are probably:

18x8.5 et30
255/40/18
18x9.5 et33
285/35/18

Those particular wheels and tires pictured will not fit your car. But you can buy a version of that wheel (AMG Style III) that will fit, which is what I did.

On all four corners I have the AMG Style III in 17" diameter x 8.5" wide with ET 34 offset and Pirelli PZero Nero M&S 235/45ZR17 tires. Tire Rack sells these wheels for $219 each, or $876 total brand new.

You'd need to buy tires, which you'd be doing with either wheel set since the tires on the wheels you're interested are the wrong size for your car. I've had good luck with the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S, but there are plenty of other good choices out there.

Here are some pictures from last year when I put them on:

thanks guys, just the info i needed. i was really hot on the Aero II rims, but i'm starting to like these too. suprises me that the SL would use a taller wheel/tire combo than the e class.

I actually don't think it's that surprising. The new SL is about 400 pounds heavier than the E, and the older R129 SL of the 1990s is also heavier. Bigger wheel/tire configurations carry more weight and ride more smoothly with low profile tires.

it's even more suprising to me that it weighs more then the E - my E420 seems pretty thick
