Radio Question

I have the factory radio in my 99 e320 with the 6 cd changer. Now I get a no cd changer message when trying to use it. I checked and there is power to the unit. Wanted to know if anyone got this problem before and is it a:

1. Simple Fix
2. Send out to get whatever is broken replaced. Taking the unit out..sending to MB and having the unit put back in?

Thanks in advance

Could be just a simple programming problem that could be corrected by a dealer with the STAR diagnostic system

I too have a '99. Recently, the "no cd changer" message has been encountered more frequently. Something is probably failing, as when I searched about MBZ radio repair, this is one of the symptoms, along with erratic volume control. I periodically have this too.

Simple fixes:

a. Try this, if the radio is on, turn it off, then turn it on again and immediately tap the "cd" button. Do not hold it down, just tap it. This worked for me for about 1 week.

b. Reset the radio, the easiest way is to disconnect the ground wire just below the rear seat. There is a small rectangle plastic cover, it covers the ground wire nut/bolt. If you do this, be sure you have your radio code handy and you must re-sync your window and sunroof.

Disconnect the ground wire for 30 seconds, then reconnect. Enter radio code and resync windows/roof.

c. Alternately, you can just disconnect the radio, but you have to have the removal tools or a small pen knife. Don't use the knife if you have never removed a MBZ radio.

Search for another post, someone else had a similiar but slightly different procedure.

At any rate, the fixes above only worked for a few months, now it is not very reliable.

Hope this helps,
