E320 rear brake dragging

Took a highway drive last week approx 100 miles and when I pulled into my garage I smelled brakes burning up (drivers side rear). Next day pulled the wheel and couldn't find any major visible problem, only a lot of rust on the pin that runs through the rear of the two pads. I took a piece of fine crocus cloth and cleaned off the rusty pin by backing off one pad and cleaning off the exposed area of the pin, then reseating that pad and backing off the other pad and doing the same procedure on the newly exposed area of the pin. So far haven't had a return of the problem, but I'm still walking on eggshells. Has anyone had a similar problem, and found a different solution?
