Exclamation adding R134a

I was reading the column about adding R134a and had a question my code reads 4 for ac code number 7, which means my refrigent is low, I wanted to know if it is necessary to clean the duovalve, or could I just add the R134a and not clean the valve? My AC runs fine still heats and cools. The hose I have to add the R134a has no reading on it...so should I put a little or 1 can in, and then check the codes again?

Do not do this unless you have the knowledge and a complete set of gages. You can do damage by overcharging. If in fact it is low you have a leak and that should be investigated with a leak sensor. Spend a few bucks and do it correctly using either a dealer or a good A/C shop.

Thanks for the input sosh...but wouldn't the refregent evaporate over time anyway, without there being any leaks? The AC still heats and cools, but when I checked the error codes and submited it to http://www.eclassbenz.com/node/27 It stated that refregent was low.

No the 134 or Freon for that matter will not evaporate from a closed system. Reason that yours still works is that it is not yet low enough to trigger the compressor off switch but it will. Also if it is low your system is not operating up to par but you most likely do not notice that but you will. It will not effect the heat, just cooling and defrost as the compressor does run in defrost to rid the windshield of moisture.

Only do so if this Indy is equipped and trained to do A/C work and is familiar with MB systems. Otherwise go to an A/C specialist or an MB dealer. Too much at stake here.
