MB recommends synthetic on 98+ W210s but their wording isn't clear on 97 and earlier W210s. I think pre-98 W210s were filled w/ dino oil from the factory as well.
Which oil do you use, what's your OCI, and current mileage? Plz indicate year & model of W210 you own - thanks!

Pro, would you consider dropping a note to MBUSA and see what they're recommending? I know the dealers in my local area stock one oil for all cars (except those fitted with DPF) and that would be M1 0W-40 as it meets 229.5.

an import
97 E320 (W210 M104) with 130,000 km.
I've been using synthetic since I bought the car at 10,000km and perform oil changes every 12,000km. I do my own oil changes with a Mityvac and use Mobil 1 5W30 with OEM filter. No problems at all. No leaks.
I'm quite positive that the 97's were filled with synthetic from the factory (not sure about 96 though) and the dealership used synthetic on my complementry tune up. MB normally recommends Mobil 1 0W40 but I think this varies depending on where you are in the country.

'97 E320
I currently have a 1997 E320 3.2Liter 6cyl.
when i first decided not to pay the stealership charges for a simple oil change and sought out too handle it myself… i couldn’t find anything from M.B. that stated which type and/or viscosity i should be using. i knew it was Mobil 1 the stearership was using... so i went directly to their web-site.
mobil1.com/USA
they have a nice little utility that will help you decide which is the right oil for your car…
it recommended… a fully synthetic motor oil… Mobil 1... 0W-40
so that’s what i’ve been using… i change the oil and filter religiously every 7K miles just because... i know some suggest 10K...
later i found this link…
MB USA: Approved Engine Oils for the Latest Engines
hope all this is of some help to you..!!

Agip 10w-30 Dyno juice. BTW neither '98 nor '99 came from the factory w/synthetic.
MB didn't notify owners of these model years until 2001 re the synthetic recommendation.
The only reason for the change was because of the FSS long change intervals
causing sludge probelems in some engines.
When I bought my '98 5 yrs ago w/26k miles the service manager recommended NOT switching to synthetic.
Just change the oil at least at the 6k mark.
