Spilled water...ECM or Shift Box assembly

Approximaterly 1 cup of water spilled into my gear box. Since then, the car hesitates when starting up. The car wont go into drive unless I 'pop' it with a screw driver or trunk key. I removed the wood molding and panel to discover an electric motherboard to the left of the gear shift. I don't get any reverse lights, and my dash display doesnt read which gear it's in; it just stays reflecting its in park. The message states that the ecm responds but there is no code.Is it the ECM or is there a part to be replaced; possibly the shift box assembly? Help....

There has been discussion on this in the past. A small amount of water can kill that (terrible cup holder design) gear box and run you 2k+ in repairs.

Try to search on that until someone chimes in.
