2001 E320 Wagon: Noise/Vibration/Power-Loss

While driving our E320, I noticed a slight vibration and a bit of power loss when accelerating. This happens only for a few seconds then goes away. It is not at any particular RPM, speed, or gear. It sounds like it is coming from the mid to rear of the vehicle.

I've parked the car and will be taking it in to the local MB mechanic on Tuesday. I'm hoping that it's not the transmission. Could this be the rear differential? Any known problems with similar symptoms?

Thank you.

It will be engine related.

Something electronic like MAS sensor, etc.

2001 E320 Wagon
My mechanic took a look at it today. They could get the resoation and powerloss symptoms that I experienced. The cat. was recently replaced and they think there might be a something lodged somewhere in the exhaust system. They are going to drop the entire exhaust tomorrow and see if anythiung turns up.

Here's the latest.... a piece of catylitic converter had blown into one of the two mufflers. It could not be removed, so it will be a new exhaust (~800). They burned a lot of man ours trying to isolate this thing (~400 in labor).
