W210 1997 Alarm prob - pls help
I have recently obtained a W210 1997 300TD from my father whose had the car since new. A few years ago the alarm started to activate when the doors automatically locked after driving off. My father just disabled the auto locking function, but still when you locked doors via button on dash the Alarm was activated. I would like to be able to turn off the alarm so I can lock the doors when travelling.
I live in Dublin, and have found this site excellent (ie:- spare keys & blower reg)
The alarm was an aftermarket fit. I assumed it was not a merc alarm but when I went looking for it I found a MERC Siren in the engine compartment with a cable disappearing into the Dash. Their is however, an LED button been fitted beside the light switch (not MERC). This when press before locking car disables the motion sensor.
I would happily disable the alarm to have be able to lock doors when travelling. Car is 10 years old and I don’t think it will be much sort after by thief’s.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jamie

I would take it to a shop that is specialised in aftermarket car audio and alarm systems installation. Have them professionally disable the alarm system and remove all unused 'garbage' and excess wiring and return it to OEM. I've had this done before with another car; they know exactly were to look for components and how to take your dasboard etc. apart routinely. You don't want anything half-disabled still attached to the wiring harness causing all kinds of problems later on. If you have the electronic 'smartkeys' your car can never be started without them anyways...

I was hoping to just disable it (ie disconnect from power) but I may have to bit the bullet and pay for a professional removal.
Thanks for the reply.
