W210 vs W211

I have a 2002 W210 E200K, and just got a 2007 W211 E200K.

Although the intergrated MP3 is nice, the sound system is better, the ILS is fantastic, the a/c is better, and the ride is more luxurious, there are 2 things about the W211 that make me prefer to drive the W210.

The new "direct steering" in the W211 is a load of crap !
On the W210, the steering is light as a feather, and when you turn a corner, the steering wheel comes back to position of its own accord, with just a feather touch.

On the W211 though, you have to turn the steering back to position otherwise the car keeps on turning - what an idiotic idea.................

Then on pulloff - the W211 doesn't feel as zippy as the 210....

Wierd.........

2002 E320 4matic 92K (bought 12/20/06). 2000 E430 4matic (RIP 12/9/06) :(
is that true even w/ the 3.5 engine in the w211? my mom has a 2004 e320 4matic; i definitely dont' feel hers is faster than my e320 4matic from 02, but i'm sure the new E350's feel better on pulloff.

I'll bet once the 350 "breaks in" it will be quicker than the 320.

Neither will be as quick as the diesel, of course.

Hi Zambussi

Hi Zambussi,

you are probably the best person I can seek an advice from, right now. I am in a dilemma of choosing between W210 and W211, and I reside in Indonesia. I have never owned a mercedes in Indonesia or in any part of Asia before, though I drove an E 430 01 W210 when I attended college overseas (it's much cheaper there than here).

The two cars are E 260 01 (W210) and E 200K 03 (W211). In Indonesia, we didn't have E 200 K for W210, with E 260 being the lowest spec of E class then, but since W211, there has been the E200K. As we all know, the E 260 came with 2.6 Litre V6 engine while the E200K came with 1.8 Litre in line 4 cylinder. Just looking at the engine difference already makes my head spinning. For E 200 K W210 in Singapore or anywhere else, it has a 2.0 Litre, instead of 1.8 Litre of W211. Is that true?

The pros and cons for me for each car:
W210: Pros: greater engine, Elegance trim, better familiarity.
Cons: age, older model
W211: Pros: greater model, younger age
Cons: 1.8 litre for e class?

My question, would you please throw in some words based on your experience with both types of E class?

Thank you

L.

strange that my 00 e430 steering wheel is not light as a feather and requires that you steer it straight as well.

.... nothing to brag about, it is a previous model....
Actually 7-speed has closer ratio, so you not feeling the "shift shock".
Cabin is quieter and stiffer than W210. That also make you feel "sloooower".

As far as the engine goes... We are not lucky enough to get anything smaller than 3.2 (disel) or 3.5 gasoline in E-class. I guess they don't like the idea been out run by a Civic?
