I feel like crap, had a car accident :(

As some of you know, I had some ugly rims on my car.

I then bought these rims and installed them, they looked SO nice. I have been saving up for a long while.

On the way home from buying new rims in San Diego, I got in a car accident. The guy ahead of me slammed on his brakes and started skidding. So I slammed on mine but couldn't avoid him and crashed. Now my front end is messed up I feel like **** right now I know it was my fault.

I don't know what to do. I finally finished my car, it had NO problems. The car definetely needs a new side panel, new front bumper, new hood, new grill, and new headlight. As I pulled off the road, no check engine light was on and the car rolled fine. The engine even sounded normal. What should I do? It's so depressing, all of this work down the drain. I keep having flash backs of the accident

Unhappy

I feel your pain! I had the same thing happen 3 weeks ago when I hit some black ice. Same corner, too! This car seems to have the traction of a declawed cat on a vinyl floor. I get it back from the shop this week. Did you have any collision insurance on it? I almost waived it but I'm glad I didn't. Mine (W124) will be around $4500 to fix. Like yours, the only indication of any damage from the cabin was the idiot light telling me I had a light burned out. Duh- it was gone.

01' E Fifty Five
Same thing happened to me 3 months ago. I had the same rims on my 2000 E, I was so happy with everything had just gotten it back from the dealer for the service B and bang, some kid stopped short on my way to school and i slid on black ice right into him. I decided to keep it in the shop after it was fixed and drive around my jeep until april. I hate the winter!

I think the insurance will pay for all of it, but i'm not sure. I probably will not have a car for a good month? The damage would have not even been nearly as bad if the trucks bumper was the same height as mine. The trucks bumper hit my headlight and my bumper did next to nothing.

2013 E-350 4matic
I just had the same accident last month in the exact same corner of the car. Mine costed 6200.00 to fix. I had no CEL on no leaks and no frame damage. Got a new hood, fender, door, bumper and lights etc. Its like new again. Just make sure you get a GOOD body shop and have it doubled check by MB when you get it back. It should be fine. Good luck

why would you opt OUT of collision insurance??

The car has great traction...need the right tires though, and no technology can replace safe driving (sorry to sound really, really corny, but it's true). Just don't tailgate next time

There was no tailgating involved. "Black" ice is invisible and it was dusk, driving east into the sun. I thought I was on dry pavement and was keeping a good distance but then the car 2 ahead of me decided to slam on his brakes and go sideways and that started the chain reaction. I was on the brakes for a long time but my car wasn't slowing down at all. Also, I was boxed in by cars on my left and a barrier on my right. I really don't know what I could have done differently, and that's coming from quite a bit of defensive driver training.

I would have opted out of collision because it raises my premiums and since the car is paid for I am not required to carry anything in addition to liability.

Mine must have the very wrong tires. If someone throws their Pepsi out on to the road I just about get stuck on the ice cubes! What is a good, cheap tire for a RWD car such as this?
