1998 E320
Electronic key
Hope someone can answer. Drove my car around the corner to show a property. Turned the car off and after about 5 minutes, returned to the car, put my key in the ignition and it would not turn. Ignition locked and that was it. Has this happened to anyone before? Car was running fine and had no prior problem with the ignition. It's a 1998 E320:

I don't think a weak/dead smart key battery would prevent the key from turning in the ignition, but just in case: Press one of the buttons and watch to see if a little red light on the key blinks; that's supposed to be a good battery indicator.

FOB battery has nothing to do with this. Its only for the remotes. You either have a bad key or ignition switch/receiver. Try cleaning off the red tip of the key, that may be one of the problems...dirt. Also try your other key. If the 2nd key does not work the problem is most likely in the vehicle
