rear suspension wobble?

Hi there,

Car currently has about 80K and has Eibach springs and shocks on and 18 in. wheels.

Over the last year or so, I've noticed the rear end starting to get loose, kind of a wiggly feeling like the bushings have worn out. The question is, which ones are they?

Any of you have any rear suspension bits replaced on your car that addressed this issue?

thanks,

-travis

Check your lugs or wheel spacers.I don't think your car has enough miles to wear out any bushings.Maybe the rubber bushing above or under the lowering springs. They tend to change positions when the springs are installed.

Could also be your tires -- tramlining

E 240 model 1999 Station wagon
I agree with you LEXREX. I have E 240 1999 Station wagon. I had the same problem. Finally got rid of it after changing all the four tires by the new one.

Better take your car to an expert in checking the car tires rotation through the machine. Once its established which tire is not rounded properly, better change it by the new one. Have the drive i am sure you will feel the difference. Mine had two out of shape tires. So i had to change them.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the suggestions.

The tires are relatively new (less than 5K) Pirelli P zero nero. No spacers and wheel bolts are torqued to 85 lb/ft. Rear camber is fixed at -1.8 degrees.

The wobble I'm experiencing is in mid turn, like when you're on an onramp and you hit an expansion joint on the freeway.

At this point, I'm thinking of changing the rear control arms with the speedbnz adjustable control arms, but I don't think that's the real problem.

Any others have experienced this?

thanks!

I think it's your tires. I had the same problem, and it got worse as my PZero Neros wore. Those tires are extremely sensitive to any sort of road surface irregularities -- tar patches, rain grooves, "asphalt ruts", crown angles w/in the lane. The car sometimes feels like the four tires are "fighting" each other. I'm rather glad mine wore out after 13,000 miles! I'm replacing them tomorrow...will see if it goes away.

Suspension wobble

I am having the same problem right now. I have the camber bars installed and adjusted and new tires on the back. It seems like the rear end is wobbling at certain speeds. Also when i go from drive to reverse, there is a clicking noise coming from the rear end. I thought the clicking noise might have been the camber bars, but i dont think so..... any input would be nice..
Thank you

Yes. Put on v-rated Continental ContiProContacts. There's not a lot of owner feedback out there about these, but they compared favorably in Tire Rack's in-house objective tests.

All tramlining is gone. All noise is gone (the Pirellis were really loud). Ride harshness is gone. It's a superb tire. Too soon to know about treadwear, but I've got to imagine it's better than the 13k miles the PZero Nero M&S gave me; has a 40k warranty. Handling is about 75-80% of the PZero. The tire is a few pounds lighter (22 vs 24) & has lower rolling resistance, so acceleration is more responsive and I expect gas mileage to improve.

Lexrex,

Thanks for the update on the new tires. There's only have 5-7K on the tires so there's still a lot of meat left on the tread. Would hate to have to buy another set of tires...

I'll increase the tire pressure from 36 to 38 psi to see if this improves the handling. If it's the tread squirm that's causing the sensation of wobbling around, maybe this will help?
