I doubt that just a brake pad replacement would cost much at a dealer, but both rotors and pads is probably a different story. It looks like TommyGunn has already had that unfortunate experience!

The dealership is going to try to get at least $600 for a simple job. Then you are getting only stock parts rather than an upgrade. Do a search for Brembo rotors and Axxis or Porterfield pads. The crossdrilled rotors are in the $200 range for a set and the pads around $80. I went with Axxis pads and got rid of all that brake dust issue. Do the work yourself and save too.

I replaced the very dusty OEM pads with Porterfield R4S's in front. A set was about $130. Wear sensors were $1.50 each and installation took me about 15-20 minutes per side. One pad did require very minor fitting, otherwise everything went together well. This summer I'll replace the stock rotors. Unless the rotors are seized onto the hubs, that shouldn't take more than a half hour per side. That's a damn sight cheaper than what the stealership charges. OEM replacement rotors are about $60 each.

go to autohausaz dot com.. oem rotors = $60 each, oem pads = $60 per pair. if you take your car to the dealer for a brake job, might as well bring lots of *** lube!!

I plan to stick with OEM pads/rotors but I'll be damned if I'm going to pay a dealer $600 for what looks like $180 in parts (ProV1 info from autohausaz).
For what this is worth, I like the way my OEM brakes behave and I don't have a brake dust issue at all.

Wow! I just had an indie shop change all pads & rotors and do a brake fluid flush. Paid $200 for parts (brembo rotors/axxis deluxe plus pads) and $250 for labor. $450 total.

Don't be intimidated folks - this is a very straight forward job needing only basic tools. Pull the details from the DIY section - extremely clear instructions.
Get yourself a couple of beers, relax and enjoy doing the job yourself.

As Nellie says, a brake job is really very basic with few troublespots. After you do it twice, you'll be even more offended by what stealerships charge.

I bought my brake pads from this guy on eBay:

for about $50
They were Mintex. Planned on doing the job myself but the "Replace Lining" message came on and I was due for an inspection so I gave the pads to my mechanic. He told me that the rotors were fine, and installed my pads and sensors for $75. At that price I was glad I let him do it. Brakes feel perfect, no noise and BONUS -- NO DUST. It's been about a month and the wheels are almost spotless. They used to get loaded with dust in a week. I have 75k miles and these are the third set of pads. Rotors are still original
