Alarm on 00-02 W210's?

Wuzup y'all! I was reading the manual (I was bored) and noticed in one section that the alarm or horn will sound when arming the alarm from the key. Is this true because my lights just flash and that's it??? It shows how to disarm the sound but not how to reactivate it; unless I was doing something wrong...Thanks!

That's interesting - the one time mine went off all I heard was the horn honking. I'll check the siren connections tomorrow because it's dark outside here now.

Does anyone know what the car is supposed to do if we activate the panic button on the key?

Thanks too Mark. BTW, the time mine went off was when I had opened all the windows and sunroof using that feature on the key (doors were still locked of course) and I tried to open the door manually. If I'm supposed to have a working siren, I certainly want one! To deactivate the panic function, do we just press the panic button again? Seems logical, but I have an old lady living next door and I don't want to give her a heart attack if I try that this evening!

To deactivate your siren just put your key in the ignition, or use the metal slide out key in your door and turn. That will disable the siren.

I'm still trying to figure out how to disable the alarm. I took the car over on a lease from my bro, at the dealer they installed some type of alarm upgrade - but now we can't find the paperwork.

Every time I go to turn my lights on, or I throw something in the ashtray, the factory alarm cycles itself and the cities/rear tails flash. I know it's the factory alarm, but there is no siren under the hood, looks like it's been removed. So I have to endure two cycles of flashes and clicks and it's driving me nutz.

I posed the question over at Mercedes Shop and somebody gave me a plug to disconnect on the vacuum pump - but it didn't work.

Any ideas?

Sorry for the jack and not a newbie, I was C-2 before my login details were lost.

Unhappy I missed something

Hello again friends,

I must be retardrd because I think I completely missed JDG's point. When we lock the car using the smart key, doesn't that automatically set the "anti-theft" alarm? After doing that, all mine does is that a couple of the lights blink (twice I think), and the "anti-tow" light on that dashboard switch begins blinking. Up to now, I have been interpreting that to mean that my "alarm" is set.

We must be talking about user, or at least dealer programmable features here, and I like the fact that only my lights blink when locking the car. Every time I'm near someone who is locking their car (and their horn beeps) I think to myself "I'm glad mine has a more subtle reminder".

Am I making any sense here? Anyway, I'm going to get my operator's guide out and read up on this. Maybe that will clarify something, at least in my feeble mind

am having trouble figuring out what you're all sorting out. there is....

panic - siren (whOOoowOOOoooo). just press PANIC again to switch off

anti theft - siren (same as above)

un/lock tone - dealer toggles to Netherlands setting (not always possible)
but it also may induce other changes. i dont know anyone locally who has
done this, so no first hand info on this setting. the default setting for US
cars is no sound

Question Panic button

My panic button does nothing, either with the driver's door locked, or unlocked. Maybe the previous owner had this disabled, or the siren removed. I guess I still need to get out my manual to see what's in there on this. I'll also pop the hood to see if it looks like anything is missing too.

Angry I am a complete idiot

DOH, we have to hold the panic button for about 1 second to activate it. I just did that and it "sirened" me - lmao.

On mine, I get the lights flash and no alert when I lock or unlock the doors. Is there any way to make the horn honk or the siren chirp when you lock/unlock the doors on a US model?

Just curious as to why people like to hear the horn honk when setting the alarm, especially the ones that have to push the button two or three times to hear it repeatedly. It's more noise pollution to me; I like the fact that M-B uses flashing lights to signal. Maybe it's just me, but it seems really low-rent when people have to be 50 feet away and turn off their alarm, two or three times, and you happen to be parked next to them. Kind of gives you a heart attack since you're not expecting it. Pet peeve of mine, I suppose, so all vehicles I own are set to only flash lights...

The reason I posed the question about the alarm chirping when arming it is because I sometimes go into some crappy areas where I have to park. At those times I would like to be able to set the alarm to audible so as to warn anyone around me that my car has an alarm and it sounds. I normally like just the lights blinking and no sound but it's those rare occassions where I think the chirp might scare off any would be thieves; know what I mean...

Thanks!

I'm curious about this, too. I find it quite annoying that the car doesn't given any audible confirmation. Instead, you've got to stand there and wait for the light confirmation. Cars in the past have offered a tone....I prefer that. I can be walking away from the vehicle and hear a confirmation.

Netherlands setting yet? use the Search function because I've seen this detailed
as to the options, drawbacks, and menu layout on this board. i dont need
audible once i installed the blinking wing mirrors

Yeah same deal here....no horn beep just the siren sound when you press the panic button or if you open door from the inside once you've armed the vehicle.....And the siren isn't loud at all to me! I've heard and would prefere something louder that would wake the neighbors!!! Maybe it isn't loud to me because I live in NYC.

I'm thinking of getting this pager alarm I've seen. So if your at work or in a bar downing a few... and your car is parked outside it will tell you if someone has bumped, hit or broken into your car it has a small LCD display. Cost about $399 with a remote starter.
