Low Tech solution for I-Pod connection
I have a 1997 E320. The car has the stock tape deck and I have been browsing the posts here to find a solution to connect my I-pod. The past few days I have been going through some old boxes in the garage and I found a very old Sony portable CD player connection for tape recorders. This is in the form of a tape and it comes with a standard jack so you load this devise in the tape deck like a normal tape and connect the cd and it plays normally... These things were invented when the CD players were rare in the cars in the late 80's early nineties so you could hook up your portable cd...
So I looked at it and asked my self if it would actually play the i-pod through the tape deck. I connect it then and load the tape on the tape deck. Low and behold! Crystal clear sound! Especially with the I-pod EQ set at my preference I was very impressed on the quality of the reproduction! No noise, no FM crappy connections, interference etc, just clean sound as much as possible due to the fact that it plays through the tape deck so it should be restricted to the frequency output of the tape deck...
So this is a winner for no money, if anyone is in the same predicament this is a very reasonable and cheap solution.

A couple people have done this, the really nice stealthy way is to use an Audio 30 tape deck where the display conceals the tape opening and you can run the wire behind the deck and just have the plug come up through the ashtray or wherever. Someone on here did it for their Sirius, I bought an Audio 30 to do the same thing, but Im going Double Din instead.
P.S. if anyone wants to buy my Audio 30 $100 shipped![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Use some radio removal keys or make your own and pull the radio out, put the tape adaptor in the deck and run the wire over the top of the deck and down behind the radio in back, and out to wherever you want the plug to come out...
This is what I was talking about on Zam's car with the Audio 30

Interesting! I was aware of those CD to tape contraptions years ago, but I always doubted how well a wire transfer to a physical cassette tape would sound. So a new use for the tape deck! excellent!
Now somebody tell me what I can do with my built-in armrest cellphone (analog, yes!)

You can actually make one of those tape adaptors with an old cassette tape and some wire as well. There are some writeups online, however buying one for $2 on ebay is probably easier. If anyone is looking for an Audio 30 tape deck like the one above let me know, mine is for sale!
