97 E420 MAF sensor cleaning question
The big plastic tube with mesh screen is the whole assembly, but the actual "MAF sensor" is the little metal wire that sticks out to the middle, correct?
I want to get a CRC MAF cleaner spray and clean the MAF. On my car, what is the easiest way to do this? Can i just spray on the mesh screen without removing the assembly?? or Is it easier to remove the whole tube, or can i just remove (carefully) the sensor part, clean it, and put it back?

I'd take it out too. That way there is no way that electrical power can be applied to it which might short it out and cause more problem.

You will need a star hex tool to remove it. It's a hex with a hole in the tip. It can be found at auto zone for ten dollars. The two wires at the tip of the maf need cleaning as much as the ones at the base. You can only get to the wires at the tip if you remove it from the tube. This is assuming your maf is identical to the one in my 2000

i looked at my MAF in my 97 E420, and there are 2 wire connectors on opposite sides, and i need to remove 2 screws that hold down the metal clamp. but these screws are virtually impossible to get to, how the heck can i loosen these screws????
