Not to mention, doesn't everybody rave about the quality of 80s mbs?

however, how you think these are even remotely similar, I don't know:

why compare a 80's MB interior to a 2001+ 3 series interior???

Now thats just not right.

Mercedes has a certain combination of style, luxury, and performance. BMW, Audi, are also fine automobiles, but at the end of the day, the Mercedes brings home the money.

Statistics show....

M6 vs.CLK 63 AMG/CL 65 AMG-the CLK and the CL take it.
S65>760 li(BMW doesnt have an M7, although you can purchase an Alpina)
M5 vs.E63-yeh and the Benz is a V8 producing more HP than the 500 hp V10 in the M5

BTW torque is ridiculous on the BENZ AMG's

The only BMW I see worth buying is the E46 M3. I prefer a two door entry line sports sedan, plus I like the look more than the C55 AMG. Eventhough the C55 has more Hp/Torque.

Get the E55, you wont regret it.

Do you own an E55? How do you know about the problems?

Usually its easy to talk to people who don't nug hug a particular brand, unless you are in fact the nuthugger.

if you think mercedes have less problems than bmws, you are certifiable.
I own cars in both brands and love each of them for the things they do. That said, the E39 M5's and 540's from the same generation have a lot more problems to fix when they get older. I'd take a used E55 from 99-02 over one of these any day if reliability was a major concern. Now the 03-04 E classes have certainly caught up and passed BMW in the lack of reliability department, based on what I've read.

someone said they don't want to replace a clutch after 30k? why not? what if it happens after 10k who cares, drive it, enjoy it to the fullest, these are high performance vehicles, they won't have the reliability of a toyota camry, but they will give you high performance

that being said, from my experience, AMG cars tend to age much better than M cars. M cars are a little more problematic, more sensors go out, quality of some interior parts does suck, but it makes up in the fun to drive department. i mean when it's running good, it's running goooood. ideal choice? both side by side in your garage ;p i think you can't go wrong either way really, should be a personal choice, and if really those talking are car enthusiasts they wouldn't care if it's one brand over another, they'd respect the other car as well.

but if you really had to choose, first start point that'd be easiest to decide would be stick or auto then go from there

now on original subject lol, between w211 e500 or w210 e55, the w211 has a lot of electrical issues with 03-04 models, ask any tech pull him aside, and he'll tell you he HATES those cars. being 2007 now, chances are previous owner was the one that had all the problems and problems were fixed, could they come back though? that's the question and risk to take.
either way gl with your decision, best advise i can give you is, make it your own choice, and what you're most happy with and enjoy the car.
regards

C219 CLS / W220 † / W211† / W210 E55 † / W210 Brabus † / Hamann 540i † /
I dont even know how the M5 came into this. M5 is 10k more for an equally same car year/miles. I was comparing 540i, E55, & 03 E500. So.....
