1998 had that feature
Good question. I had that feature on a 1998 E430, that much I can tell you. If yours is supposed to do that, there is no way to disable that feature so that can't be the problem. Maybe there is just something wrong with the central locking system.

2003 E320 4Matic Wagon & 1997 E320
The 1996 and 1997 E320's do not have that feature.
I actually do not like that feature on my 2003 wagon so I disabled it. You just push the button for three seconds in the open position and then it will not automatically lock the car.

Great well that clears that up.
I figured as much as there is no mention of it in the manual.
There is also only one sensor to lock the doors with the remote so you have to aim at the rear view mirror ,you actually have to be close to the car to do that.

Thank you loubapache, I'll try that. I read on these forums somewhere that it cannot be disabled so I never tried. I guess I should have looked in the owner's manual!
