Parking Break

hello, i missed up the parking break, tried to put on 9 inch wheels with 35 mm offset on my E430 2002 (OE are 7.5 inch wide and 41 mm ) and now the parking breaks dont work any idea how much the dealer ll charge to fix it?

I'll bite. Why do you think you messed up the parking brake? Are the cables still attached? I can't think how wheels would have anything to do with it.

i'm scratching my head on this as well. the only causal effect from the rim
swap that I can imagine is that the original lug bolts were too long when used
with the new rims, thereby extending and impinging on the parking brake. ??

you got it raymond, the OE bolts were too long (they are 40mm long) , i messared how far the bolt sticks out of the OE rim and it was 16 mm, on the new rims the same bolt sticks out 29 mm,

i know ill take a lot of heat for this comment, but i don't understand why people mess around with lug bolt and rim sizes that aren't stock...just use the best stock-size stuff you can get; there's plenty of options out there.

the website i bought the new rims from they said i can use OE bolts and caps, well caps worked fine, and the bolts worked ok on the front tires (the bolt still too long but nothing to bind agains), but when i put the rear ones the car wouldnt move..and thats when the parking break snapped..
also an update the guys in tirerack helpd me alot, they got the right size bolts, now i have all 4 new rims onwith correctt bolts. as for the parking brak i think it is the cable snaped, i checked the inside of the rear breaks and they were fine but the cable was loose.

check beneath the rear seat. i believe you can access parking brake adjust there as well

ah, yes the old bolt trick. i forgot these don't have studs. can you tell i haven't removed my wheels yet on this car?

no telling what you broke until you take it apart, but it's probably pretty ugly, if you drove the car at all. if you can't work on drum brake type systems, then i would estimate repair at 1 hr plus parts per side at a shop. hopefully, a hardware kit it sold separately. that's probably all it needs.

one more thing. make sure you keep the original lug bolts in the car, if you plan to use the original spare or your new lugs may be too short.

I Have replaced several E Brake Shoe retaining springs that shear off when longer lug bolts are used... (From the Tire Shop Experts)Depends on how long the car was driven

Its a set of Brake shoes insided the rear brake rotors...Very basic

i did not drive the car at all, i just put in drive and it wouldnt move so i figerd something is wrong, i checked the brake cable underneath the car and it is loose, so i ll check under the rear seat to see it.
