Window Regulators...........

I've heard about them, I see them being sold on ebay, and I've read the window regulators can give trouble in the W210. Well, last night I raised my right rear window and "pop". I guess that was the regulator breathing its last breath as she broke........... So I pushed the window back all the way up and it stayed............for now. Will the window fall or should it stay up until I fix same??

How complicated, if at all, is the regulator replacement? I know the cost is about $60 for the part. Any special tools?

Good thing I am on vacation this week..............

I would like to add that the rear regulators are under tension all of the time holding the window closed. Even if one doesn't roll the window up and down, they are still holding the window shut and that puts force on the cable. Once the cable snaps or a plastic pully breaks, the window can fall to the bottom of the door. It might be pulled back up but there is only the friction of the guide track holding it there.

I hope the other post you found was mine. I can say that the regulators sold on Ebay fit good and were cheap too . I happen to have both mine go out on the same day so I replaced both sides at the same time so you may want to consider buying for both doors. Just my 2 cents. Also with the reply from E-Klasse about the tension, after installing the new regulators I just bump the button so that the window does not have so much presure on it while in the up position so maybe it will extend the life of the new regulators but as far as the window not falling with the regulator broken, do not try it ! It will fall if you hit a bump. May get messy if you have to replace the window too. For me, I took a small piece of 2x4 about 10 inches long and just screwed it under the window to hold it in place while I was waiting for the new regulaters, that way I could still use my car. It was very redneck but effective!

Done. This job was completed last week. My buddy helped me and with the use of his tools, and experience, we had this done in about an hour. Pretty easy actually..........

Now, waiting for the other side to "pop"!!
