Check Engine Light at idle

Check Engine Light at idle
I am sure this has been discussed but I couldn't find it.
I have a 99 E430 with 61K. My wife let it idle last week for 25 minutes and the check engine light came on. No other differences in vehicle (idle normal, etc.) After I drove it around for 15 minutes at regular speeds, the CEL went off. It has stayed off until today when I drove it in stop and go traffic for 10 minutes and then at a stop (idle) for 2 minutes - the CEL went on but when I got back to non-low rpm speeds it went out.
It is difficult to figure out the problem since the light keeps going out.
Anyone experience this???
Many Thanks

The fault codes will remain stored in the control module regardless.
I would guess fuel mixture adaptations, because of a faulty air mass sensor. Chances are you have faults for the left and right bank mixture adaptations at idle speed going in and out range because of incorrect air mass readings.
