Thumbs down 1999 e300TD Fuel Injector Pump Leaking

I really need some help from all you gear head / brainiacs out there. I have a 1999 e300TD. I had what I thought was an oil leak. I took it to a local guy and he found out it was the "Injector pump o-ring". This requires removing the intake manifold among other things to get to. Sigh.

After he got the o-ring replaced ( he showed me the old, it was broken in half), he put it all back together to find that the actual injector pump is now leaking, and as a bonus the car now smokes out the tail pipe. The car is still at the shop and he is looking for a new or rebuilt injector.

Can ANYONE shed any light on this? Does it make sense? Has anyone dealt with it before? any suggestions? really, ANYTHING you can tell me would help. Is Injector Pump the right name? I barely know anything about these cars, so even an educated guess by someone would be a big help. Thanks - Dylan

If you have complete confidence in your Indy shop, then I would do replace what he says is bad. If you do not, take it to a dealer and pay the higher dollars to assure the job is done properly. They should offer you a 12 month warranty on labor, and any parts you buy from them.

O-rings on injection pump are common. Were they copper washers or rubbers? If it's the rubber washers then they need to be re-installed properly or somethings get mis-aligned.
