How to install the outside door mirror ass.?

I am needing to install a mirror on my 1999 e320 4matic project. I did not take the mirror off the door. I have the new painted mirror and the 3 small bolts but not sure how to access the screw heads to mount it. If I had no concerns I wound say you should flex it all the way over against the spring while putting the screws in.... But I choose to wait and ask the experts.. Anyone put a w210 door mirror on?

there are three screws arranged in triangle, one on top, two on bottom

install the bottom one, closest to front of engine first, firm, not super tight.

carefully fold mirror (against strong spring action) and install top, then
remaining bottom. (i dont think the sequence of last two are important....
but pay attention just in case)

then, slide the plastic cover into place. retaining spring should lock into place.

so the key is to start with the plasitc cover off? I will see if I can release it while the mirror is off the car. I am not sure how I can bend it against the spring without it mounted to a door to hold the mount down.

no, you'll have difficulty doing this off the car...with cover on. so use long
shank flat blade and poke through the openings in the frame to access the
spring retaining wire. have bright light close by.

it's really a 3-4 handed operation:
as you maneuver the retaining wire, you'll also need to try and pull cover off.
have a buddy helping would be even better, otherwise plan on fumbling with
this for 10-15 mins while you try to perform both motions

Got it. thanks for all the help. I had no idea the plastic cover slid off. Forums are great!

just in case you missed the video link embedded in the above link. under bright
light and squinting eyes, you'll should see that straight retaining thingy through
the small holes through the end of the the mirror frame
