Low Oil Warning

After having my car worked on I now get a low oil warning. I have checked the oil, and it seems okay to me.

So here are the questions. Th emechanic had to remove my INTAKE manifold and INJECTION PUMP, is there anything around there that could have knocked off? Some sensor or wire?

How do I check the oil level - with the car running or off? This is for a diesel if it matters. Mine seems over full while off. Just right while running.

I am getting a little scared to drive it, by I really think it's just a sensor.

Seems like a sensor...

I got a Service B and a week later, the Oil Level lights comes on. Then it says, "VISIT WORKSHOP". It comes on intermittently, and when I check the oil, the level is fine, with "Perform Service On Time". There's more than 10,000 miles until the next Service. So, I am guessing that it is a sensor. I will have it checked this week.

I got the message once while on the highway. Pulled over and waited my mandatory 5 minutes and had it measured. I was 1.5 quarts low and it has not come on since.

To answer one of your questions, oil level readings are always done with the engine off.
