ECU upgrade ASAP!!!
i wonder what's the reason for mercedes to put w-rated tire on E430 and limit it's top speed to 130mph?? That's only enough top speed to catch a bmw 530, but 540 will totally blow the E430 away ......

Most likely they wont know you chipped the ecu unless they opened it up and were specifically looking for it. It's invisible to the computer OBD diagnostics they hook up.
Mac, actually if they found it, the rule/law of only parts related to the aftermarket part being voided from the warranty doesn't apply how you'd suggested, that just the ecu would be void from the warranty. The chip modifies fuel maps, timing, etc. If they found out, you would be on your own with ANY engine failures, and they'd LOVE to deny you. If your shock goes bad, they can't blame it on the chip, but if you melt a piston, good luck~!

i think what i meant was the burden of proof will be on mercedes if anything goes wrong with your car after you had the modification done to your car. They simply can't just deny your warranty because you have the modification, they'll have to prove that the modifcation that you make is directly related to damage to your car on the warranty claim.
But for an average person to argue with a mercedes technician over the technical stuff on mercedes?? i don't think u'll stand a very good chance.
