E320 steering wheel shaking
I have an E320 2002 with 43k miles on it. I noticed that the steering wheel starts shaking a bit when I get over 65 mph. When I hit the brakes at these speeds or little less the steering wheel shakes and vibrates like crazy. The tires are new, and recently had them alligned.

You need to balance your wheels
Are your wheels balanced correctly? Usually it happens after you put a new set of tires and they do not pay enough attention to balacing. I suggest you re-balance your front (rears too) tires and I bet you should see a difference.

i guarantee it's not a tire problem, unless you have some MAJOR slipped belts. run your hands around the front tires feeling for odd lumps.
sounds like a brake issue. wheel balance won't affect braking, and what you state on your braking acts like warped/pad deposited rotors. possibly a sticking caliper or collapsed brake line. it's also possible that you have a really bad suspension bushing, but not likely.
did someone do a "pad slap" on the front brakes? that is only pads, not new rotors, not turning rotors or rotors are below min thickness?
oh yea, make damn sure the alignment people tightened everything! might be a loose tie rod.

I had the EXACT same problem with the EXACT same year...I would bet it's
1. Lower control arm bushings
2. Ball Joints
3. Really crappy tires
