What weight & brand oil should i use for a 98 E300TD?

I assume you ask this question because you are not the original owner. The absolute best motor oil for your E300TD is the exact same brand & wieght the previous owner used. The reason for this is, engines devolpe a wear pattern based on the wieght and brand of oil used (I'LL spare you the lenghty scientific stuff), these patterns are like tiny grooves on all the rotating parts of your engine. If you put a different type wieght or brand of oil in your engine after it has allready devoloped it's wear pattern from the oil which was previously used, you will change that pattern causing excelarated wear. If you can not contact the previous owner for that info, try looking in the service record protion of your owners manual (where the dealer puts his stamp showing service was performed) this will usally say what oil was used. At least that's how I found out what oil was used in my 97 E300D. I can't stress enough how important it is to use the same oil, even if you do not care for that brand USE IT, your car will thank you for it.
