Considering 1st MB purchase. New E 320 around 52K. Wondering old E 320 for 35 worth? Any comments will be appreciated by the experienced MB E owners of the past. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I'll bite - Since no-one else will.

The obvious answer is if you have the expendable money, spend it on a new one; otherwise, buy a used one...like I did.
I asked a friend (who buys and sells MB and other luxury cars) what used car I should buy and he advised me to go with MB instead of BMW because they hold their value better and the parts are actually cheaper.

I can't make that one out, but to determine a fair price, find out:
1. What a dealer would pay for one on a trade in
2. What a private seller would sell one for
3. What the retail price is that you could expect a dealer to ask for one
... go to http://www.kbb.com - Kelly Blue Book. It gives you all three.
Compile the data on the exact car you're looking for and go to a dealer/wholesaler/private party with your info and offer what you feel is fair. I paid Trade-In Value for mine from a wholesaler.
What's a wholesaler? He said he takes in vehicles from banks who either took the cars back after a lease, or repo'ed them for whatever reason - and he sells them at wholesale or less to private parties, to dealers, or to auction houses.
I hope that helps you and whomever is looking for a used MB.
Never pay retail!!!

I think you should go take each out for a ride and decide if a new one is worth $17K more. Mine is an 01, bought w/ 22K miles on it with the maint. plan included for $36K.
I got mine from a wholesaler and am very happy. If I were to spend $50k or so on an E, it would be a used E55 without a doubt. TJ is right about retail, never do it.
Nice car either way.

I had forgotten about this price comparison spreadsheet I made last month.
