18" or 19"?

hey ppl im lookin into gettin some TSW wheels for my 97 e420 im also lookin to lower it with the h&r springs and bilstein shocks. Im really likin the 19" TSW's but heres the thing, this car is my daily driver now i can understand that the ride can get alittle rough as long as its not unbearable im fine wit it but like is there possibility that the rims get damaged easily? or like what happens if i have like 3 ppl in the back pkus my sound system? i avoid potholes and **** but like is it not recommended to get 19 and jus get the 18??

My 18's really seem to max out the possibilities, that is if I don't have the wrong rims or something. But that's the thing -- the larger you get, the more you have to know about making sure everything is perfect and that you know exactly what is going on. For example, I just put in bilstein HD's (not sport) and when I go over some types of bumps it feels like something is bottoming out. Then on the right front, the bold from the upper control arm mounting bolt (I think that's what it is) is within like almost nothing of the tire.

So, what's going on? I only have 18's and I have at least 2 questions that I'm not qualified to answer even though I'm a smart guy who works on his own cars. I had my rims replaced because when I bought it I didn't realize that it had the WRONG rims on and there was a bolt actually cutting into one of the tires. So these are *supposedly* the right fit for my car.

Go with 19's or 20's and your tolerance for stuff like this is even smaller so you will likely have even more issues unless you're a pro.

PS, I also have a 97 420.

How long have you owned your car? How well do you know it?

What do YOU know about it? Especially around the wheels? Do you know if the fit on each wheel well is the same? Like on mine, it's different from front left to right. Do you know if you have anything like this? You can't assume based on ownership -- you need to know if you want to go extreme. You can't ask your mom or dad.

PS... a highly recommended mechanic mentioned on this forum said that the closeness of the bold on the passenger front was somewhat normal for manufacturing variance.

And are you sure that your mom didn't sneak out and drag race when you were not looking? ;-)

I'm just sayin that ownership isn't all that important in these things. Of course, you want to know that someone cared and didn't abuse, but manufacturing can play a part and so can clueless well-meaning owners. Of course your dad and mom don't like to brag about the times they've grit their teeth after doing things in the car that they wish they had not.

I have 19's on mine with little noticable difference in ride quality. In my opinion you can't go wrong with either thought you will find that the 18 inch tires come cheaper.

Both look great.

i got 19s...in SF (pothole city), 2 inch drop, no bends, and no tires blown. However, when i was on my 18 inch AMGs i blew out a BFgoodridge tire on a pothole, which i just purchased a week before....hmmm....maybe it has more to do with tire quality.
