Question Command (worthwhile upgrade or not)

I have been contemplating adding the command to my W210 and wanted to get thoughts on if this would be a worthwhile upgrade from folks who have it in their car. How is the functionality of the Command in terms of accuracy? Does it specifically alert the driver with the street name when prompting to take a left or right or simple prompts take left in 1.2 miles.

It would help if I had the pleasure seeing a command in action before doing this upgrade; but considering I don’t know anyone in my area with the command I wanted to gather input in terms of pros and cons of the command.

Steve @ MBENZNL.com added a Euro Comand to My W210 Wagon in 2001 and its a great Investment..

Sure the aftermarket Units work better and Alpine has 3D ..but the MB unit works with the Can bus and one keeps the steering wheel features..

And One can get parts for it when it need service

I agree with Mark above.

If you're trying to keep the car "quasi - authentic" then the Command System is fine.

Along with the ability to use the steering wheel buttons - you also get another menu that displays under the speedometer that is specifically for navigating along with the voice commands. The display shows street names, arrows for which direction you need to be in, how many miles (feet) to your next direction change, etc.

It's pretty accurate (as long as you keep current with the CD-Roms).

Good Luck!

2002 E420
Command Addition

Thanks for the information concerning the upgrade.

Does anyone know what the cost is for the addition ? I have a 2002 E420 and it has all the other items but this one.

Thanks,

KC

Seconded

I agree with the advice regarding installaing the "authentic" COMAND unit. I am sure you will bevery happy with it. I have it myself, and although it aint the latest in terms of graphics, widescreen and whatnot (som care about that), it will give you all the features that are incorporated into the car through CANBUS which in itself is worth the choise of staying with the original installation feature of COMAND.

Since its a retrofit, and may want to save cash, a good choise could be buying it off eBay, which have several auctions and buynow offers all the time.

Yours, Rumpel
