hi, a couple of questions please

hi there, i have recently purchased a 2000 reg E320 cdi avantgarde facelift, and i have the urge to start making some tastefull mods. a couple of questions if i may:

- it currently has the 17" mercedes upgraded alloys..but i got some 18" alloys i want to put on..but i dont know what size tyres i should use on them?? as i dnt want them too low profile ideally..

- it has factory fitted xenon headlights, but i prefer the aftermaket clear projector headlights, and i want to know if it is possible to fit these? and if so then can i fit a aftermaket HID kit?

- finally, i need to change the headunit for an aftermarket dvd model, i need to know do i need adaptors etc?? also i want to retain the steering wheel controls and tried searching for this..but got very confused...any help please??

thanks for reading, and btw merc's rule!!

yes, you can purchase aftermarket, clear projector headlights, but they *all*
suck. they have poorly designed specifications and the resulting beams are
very poor - to - tolerable, and work for halogen bulb (some come with H7,
and some come with smaller).

Folks who do this first purchase and then go on the cheap, buying an HID
kit for $2-300. This creates the delusion of an HID headlight system, but
the quality is poor: glare, poor cutoff and poor focus, since the projector
and bulb are dimensioned for an H7, albeit very poorly.

The recommendation is to buy Depo (Taiwan) projector headlight, then buy
RS6 OEM projector (bixenon) from Ebay....or by E55/Maxima OEM projector
bix from Ebay for $150-250. They are sized nearly identical to the Depo's
90mm halogen projector. Some fitting is required (the E55 is easier to fit
of the two).

Going this latter route will cost you an additional $400+- depending on your
success in sourcing these parts cheaply (bulbs, ballasts, projectors).

....and welcome to MBWorld.
