I am trying to help my friend get an ipod input in his car while keeping the Factory H/U. For my ML there was a plug that went in place of the CD changer and that worked well but this is a 98 or 99 E class, no command. any help would be great.

Cassette adapter is the best and most cost effective $20.
This is what I use, I routed the wire out of the cassett door around the back of the head unit (removal of H/U required and small notches cut in mount to pass the wire) and wire comes out at the ash tray

FM modulator is just crap.

Here is one that cost $120 but no tone or balance, fader.

Last one dension takes the 6 CD changer out and uses the connection for the I-Pod $500.
